Alprox

Indications

Alprox is indicated for the treatment of anxiety states (anxiety neurosis) with or without associated symptoms of depression. Symptoms of anxiety states may be variable. Contraindications: Alprox is contraindicated in patients with known sensitivity to the Benzodiazepines.

Drug Interactions

Alprazolam is known to interact with other drugs like Alcohol, Amprenavir, Antazoline, Cimetidine (HCl), Clarithromycin, Clozapine, Diflunisal, Digoxin, Diltiazem (HCl), Disulfiram, Erythromycin, Fluconazole, Fluoxetine (HCl), Fluvoxamine (Maleate), Imipramine (HCl), Iprindole, Iproniazid Phosphate, Isoniazid, Itraconazole, Ketoconazole, Labetalol, Levodopa, Lofepramine (HCl), Metoprolol (Tartrate), Metronidazole, Miconazole (Nitrate), Omeprazole, Paregoric, Phenytoin (Na), Propoxyphene. These interactions are sometimes beneficial and sometimes may pose threats to life. Always consult your physician for the change of dose regimen or an alternative drug of choice that may strictly be required.

Side Effects

If they occur, are generally observed at the beginning of therapy and usually disappear upon continued medication or decreased dosage. The most common side effects were lightheadedness, blurred vision, coordination disorders, various gastrointestinal symptoms, and autonomic manifestations. As with the other benzodiazepines, paradoxical reaction such as stimulation, agitation, concentration difficulties, confusion, hallucinations, or other adverse behavioral effects may occur in rare instances and in a random fashion.

Dosage

Children: Initially 3.3mg/kg per day in single or divided doses.
