[Simvastatin]
Description / Properties
Athenil is a lipid-lowering agent derived synthetically from a fermentation product of aspergillus terreus.
Indications
Coronary heart disease, Dyslipidemia
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to any component of this preparation.

Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevation of serum transaminases.

Pregnancy and nursing.
Drug Interactions
Gemfibrozil and other fibrates, inhibitors.
Side Effects
Athenil is generally well tolerated; for the most part side effects have been mild and transient in nature. Abdominal pain, constipation and flatulence, skin rash, nausea, diarrhoea, rash, dyspepsia, pruritis, dizziness, muscle cramps etc.
Warning and Precautions
Simvastatin & other HMG-CoA reductase occasionally cause myopathy. Athenil is contraindicated in pregnancy. Women taking Athenil should not breast-feed their infants. Safety and effectiveness in children have not been established.
Dosage
The patient should be placed on a standard cholesterol-lowering diet before receiving Athenil. For CHD patient, starting dose of 20mg/day in the evening.
Dyslipidemia: The usual starting dose is 10mg/day in the evening.

Athenil tablets 10mg & 20mg are available in blister packs of 10’s(10x1 strip).
