White capsule, each containing 180 mg (> 1 billion CFU) of a standardized, cream-colored powder consisting of freeze-dried cultures of:

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus, LA-5
  • Bifidobacterium, BB-12
  • Streptococcus thermophilus,
         STY-31
  • Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. 
         Bulgaricus, LBY-27

    Each Sachet contain s2.0 g of (>8 billion CFU) standardized freeze-dried cultures of

  • Lactobacillus acidophilus, LA-5
  • Bifidobacterium, BB-12
  • Streptococcus thermophilus, STY-31
  • Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. Bulgaricus, LBY-27

    Description / Properties

    Probiotics are: "Live microorganisms which when administered in adequate amounts confer a health benefit on the host". Ecotec™ is developed according to WHO guidelines.

    Indications

    Treatment and prevention of acute or chronic infectious diarrhea of non-specific origin, antibiotic associated diarrhea and traveler’s diarrhea. Co-prescribe with antibiotics to minimize the ecologic damage of intestinal flora. Other indications include inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease), irritable bowel syndrome and post operative state.

    Ecotec™ can be combined with ORS, antibiotics, anti-fungal, anti-protozal, antiviral, other anti-diarrheal products and also with chemotherapeutic agents

    Drug Interactions

    There is no specific drug interaction with Ecotec™.

    Side Effects

    Ecotec™ is safe to use. It contains four strains of friendly bacteria. They colonize in the intestinal tract and do not enter into systemic circulation. In clinical studies no noticeable side effects have been observed which are assumed as Ecotec™ related.

    Dosage in Adults

    Usual recommended dose of Ecotec™ is 1 - 2 capsules a day. It can be recommended up to 6 capsules a day depending on the severity of condition, to be continued for 1 week after the symptoms subside.

    In co-prescription with antibiotics, administered 1 capsule 2 -3 hours before or after the administration of antibiotic, to be continued at least by 1 week after the antibiotic therapy.

    In antibiotic associated diarrhea administered 1 capsule 2 -3 hours before or after the administration of antibiotic, to be continued at least by 1 week after the antibiotic therapy.

    In traveler’s diarrhea to be continued by 1 week pre and post travel.

    Dosage in Children

    Children and those who cannot swallow capsule: The powder of the capsule can be taken out and administered with cold water, honey, milk (cold) or juice etc. Usual recommended dose of Ecotec for children is 1 - 2 capsules a day, however Ecotec™ is not recommended in children under the age of 1 year.
