Amoebicide
Indications
Amoebiasis and Giardiasis
Contraindication
Hypersensitivity to Diloxanide Furoate, Metronidazole or other Nitromidazole derivatives, hepatic damage and active organic disease of CNS. Metodine DF is contraindicated in first three months of pregnancy.
Side Effects
Rarely unpleasant metallic taste, abdominal discomfort, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea may occur. Darkening of urine, dysurea, or polyurea may occur.
Warning and Precautions
Safe use of Metronidazole has not been established in pregnancy. Metronidazole may potentiate the anticoagulant effects of caumarin and warfarin resulting in the prolongation of prothrombin time. Metronidazole has been shown to be carcinogenic in mice and rats.
Dosage
Metodine DF Tablets: 1 Tablet thrice daily for 5 days. The treatment may continue up to the 10 days in refractory cases. Children (1-5 year) 5ml thrice daily for 5 days. (5-12 years) 5-10ml thrice daily for 5 days. (over 12 years)10-20ml thrice daily for 5 days. The treatment may continue up to the 10 days in refractory cases.
