Muscoril

Description / Properties

Muscle relaxant: thiocolchicoside acts both in contractures of central origin and in those of reflex type, rheumatic and traumatic.

Indications

Spastic sequelae of hemiparesis, Parkinson’s disease and latrogenic Parkinsonian symptoms, particularly the neurodyslectic syndrome.

Acute and chronic lumbar and sciatic pain, cervico-brachial neuralgia, persistent torticollis, post-traumatic and post-operative pain.

Contraindication

Flaccid paralysis, muscle hypotonus. Confirmed individual hypersensitivity to the components of the product or any closely related chemicals. Pregnancy and breast-feeding.

Side Effects

In rare cases diarrhea, gastric pain and heartburn have been reported after oral administration. After intramuscular injection there are infrequent reports of malaise, sometimes associated with hypotension and/or loss of consciousness. In rare cases a transient state of agitation or confusion may arise after parenteral administration. The drug only very rarely causes drowsiness. Infrequent cases of skin rash or erythema have been reported.

Warning and Precautions

Reduce the dosage as necessary if diarrhea appears after oral administration.

The drug should not be given to pregnant women. Since it passes into the mother’s milk, its use is not recommended during breast-feeding.

Although the drug only very rarely causes drowsiness, this possibility must be borne in mind.

Dosage

  • Oral route: two capsules after the main meals, or as prescribed.
  • IM injection: two ampoules/24 hours, or as prescribed.
